Job Description 

TheUser Experience Designer at Happy Medium plays a pivotal part at the heart of projects both large and small. Our User Experience Designer is expected to function as a thought-leader, innovator, consensus-builder and a client-facing rock-star. This role on our team functions as the glue that helps to drive forward all other teams towards the project’s common goal, all while keeping end-users top of mind. 

You will be responsible for overall structure and usability of all websites and products we create, for clients and for Happy Medium. You will be expected to come up with sound Information Architecture structures that yield robust digital outcomes that meet any given client’s business goals, including e-commerce. You will also be responsible for creating wireframes for the entire web team to reference throughout the design and development process. Identifying and documenting key user flows will also be an important responsibility in your role as UX Designer.

The UX Designer at Happy Medium also serves as a member of our Product Team. This team’s purpose is to support existing products owned by Happy Medium as well as research and develop new products. You will work closely with the other members of the Product Team, using your research skills to determine the feasibility of new product ideas as well as employing your usability knowledge to make UX improvements to products where needed. 

Position Summary 

As the UX Designer at Happy Medium, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Interacting directly with clients and the Accounts team to understand business and user goals and requirements
  • Driving usability testing plans and execution for all projects
  • Putting forth written and sketched-out strategic recommendations to both clients and internal teams for direction on all pieces of user experience for a project
  • Actively collaborating with Happy Medium’s Design, Development, and Creative departments to create elegant solutions to complex workflows
  • Documenting internal processes and keeping notes on all discussions related to user experience on projects
  • Acting as the user-advocate during the design and development process, subjecting early-stage designs to usability testing or expert review, and offering implementation suggestions from a user-centered perspective
  • Using research-related services, theories and methods to support your recommendations and validate designs. Acting as a “go to” with in-depth knowledge of user interface best practices and standards.
  • Taking the initiative in providing input and feedback in both departmental discussions and on issues relating to other departments
  • Researching interaction design and technology trends

Skills We're Looking For 

  • 3+ years of experience in creating prototypes, wireframes and/or user interfaces on digital projects various kinds
  • Experience in a similar field/position, agency experience is a plus
  • UX Portfolio demonstrating process and problem solving skills is desired
  • Experience with in-person and remote usability testing and research
  • Good presentation skills and able to present to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Knowledge of wireframing and prototyping tools
  • Prototyping skills, or understanding of HTML, CSS and/or JavaScript/JQuery is a plus but not required
  • Self-motivation - able to solve problems and make decisions in a timely manner 
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal communication and professional writing skills
